A broken RJ45 tab creates a deceptively simple question: should the cable be repaired, reterminated, retained with an accessory, or replaced entirely?
There is no universal answer. The right decision depends on the cable's condition, location, value, service impact, and the standards governing the installation.
Replace when replacement is genuinely easy
If the failed cable is a short patch cord sitting in an accessible rack, replacement is usually the cleanest option. A known-good factory-made cable is inexpensive, quick to install, and easy to document.
